Why a benefit?
Eddie Roberts, guitarist and leader of The New Mastersounds, having lived for a period of time in the Tenderloin district of San Francisco felt a real sense of connection and community and was personally touched by the homeless situation, including the ignorance of the reality surrounding the issue. Eddie wishes to join his music with artists and organizations that are working to make a real difference in the lives of others. In September 2013, Eddie coordinated The Payback with The New Mastersounds, a night in support of the Coalition on Homelessness at the GAMH in San Francisco. Eddie and his band are continuing their efforts this year by supporting Compass Family Services, an organization that is providing tangible services and solutions to those in San Francisco that are homeless and at risk for becoming homeless.
San Francisco facts on homelessness:

The New Mastersounds:
UK Funk & Groove Jam Band, The New Mastersounds recently celebrated their 10 year anniversary playing and touring in the USA. They also released their 9th studio album earlier this year, Therapy. The New Mastersounds are at the very top of an elite selection of acts that bring the true soul out of funk. As an example of the respect this band commands, Peter Wermelinger - DJ, collector, and author of the crate-diggers' bible The Funky & Groovy Music Lexicon - places the 2001 NMS track Turn This Thing Around in his all-time top-ten tunes, along with the likes of Eddie Harris, Funkadelic, and Herbie Hancock.
As a band, and as individuals, they have collaborated with an impressive array of musicians, DJs and producers, including Lou Donaldson, Corinne Bailey Rae, Page McConnell, Karl Denson, Melvin Sparks, George Porter Jr, Fred Wesley, Maceo Parker & Pee Wee Ellis (JB Horns), Ernest Ranglin, Art Neville, Nightmares on Wax & Pretty Lights.
The Nth Power:
The exceptional new project of Nigel Hall (Lettuce / Warren Haynes) on Vocals and Drummer Nikki Glaspie (Dumpsterphunk / Beyonce) proving that soul music can be exponentially greater than the sum of its parts, The Nth Power will inspire you to dance, groove, make love or just stand there with goose bumps. Few artists pack as much punch in a five-piece, all-analog ensemble as The Nth Power. The formula starts with drummer Nikki Glaspie's deep pocket, explosive energy and silky vocals, compounded by bassist Nate Edgar (John Brown's Body), whose quiet confidence lies in perfect contrast to the emphatic, funky low-end he creates. Next, the unmistakable vocals of Nigel Hall and his innate ability to preach with a keyboard hit the groove in full force. Over the top comes Nick Cassarino (Jennifer Hartswick Band, The Shift), oozing more soul in one finger than most guitarists could create in a lifetime, and with a voice that immediately wraps the room in sex appeal. West African djembe master Weedie Braimah (Toubab Krewe, Kreative Pandemonium) is the final X-factor, creating a rhythmic symphony that completes the equation with resounding finesse. Together, The Nth Power wants to change lives through a message of musical love and understanding.
